Zoological
Society
a 501c3 dedicated to supporting the works of the Henson Robinson Zoo in Springfield, IL
MISSION & HISTORY.
Shortly after the creation of the Henson Robinson Zoo in 1970, a group of passionate individuals created the Springfield Zoological Society to further support the needs of the brand new zoo. While the organization has varied in its level of activity over the last 50+ years, one thing has held steady: We are here to fundraise for and support the work of the Henson Robinson Zoo with whatever it takes.
In recent years the SZS has funded everything from $250 educational courses to $250,000 building needs. Some of the major renovations that we have had a hand in are the updated Penguin exhibit and the Spider Monkey exhibit as well. We also worked with the zoo staff and supplied funding to bring in Binturongs to the zoo when they were determined to be a good expansion of the already impressive collection.
Our Mission
As outlined in our bylaws, we are driven by four primary areas of focus.
